Artek at Stockholm Furniture Fair 2004

During Stockholm Furniture Fair, February 4-8, 2004, Artek launches a new cooperation with Italian based Ratti, one of Europe’s largest manufacturers of textiles for the fashion and design industry. In an elegant and fresh installation that plays on the striking combination of pure form and functionalism, Artek presents a wide range of their famous Alvar Aalto furniture collection and a few examples of Ratti produced textiles.

Artek’s original values from 1935 – innovation, long-term durability and high quality combined with a clean-lined form language – are still the company’s driving forces as they continue their push into the future. The launch of the new cooperation with Ratti is strategically a step forward in their efforts to carry on the company values.

“The world has changed since Aalto’s time. We want to remain at the forefront of quality and the best design and that means that we have to live with the time, develop and be innovative. Our new cooperation with Ratti is a part of our development strategy and at the Stockholm Furniture Fair we will show some samples from Ratti’s enormous textile collection. In Milan later on this year we will present further upholstery textiles from Ratti, some of which will be exclusively produced for Artek and later also added to our upholstery collection" says Federico Repetto, Marketing Director at Artek.

Among the furniture presented at Stockholm Furniture Fair is the newly reintroduced Double Coffee Table 907, designed by Alvar Aalto in 1933, Armchair 400, top selling Chair 611, Sofa 544, and many other products from the classic Artek Alvar Aalto collection. In the ceiling of the Artek stand hangs a wavelike composition of Pendant lamp A440 in sandblasted opal glass. Aalto first completed this lamp in brass for the Savoy Restaurant in 1937 and later adapted it for serial production and also designed this opal version of it. Included in Artek’s installation is also Ben af Schultén’s Espa chair.
