BakBone Software announces the availability of Netvault version 7.1

Latest Version Provides Industry-Leading Platform Support and Improved Performance, Scalability and System Administration

Stockholm, Sweden — October 23, 2003 — BakBone Software™ (TSX: BKB, OTCBB: BKBOF), a global provider of data recovery software, today announced the availability of NetVault 7.1, the latest version of the Company’s enterprise-class data protection software. NetVault’s newest version provides the industry’s most comprehensive platform support and includes key features designed to improve performance, scalability and system administration.

NetVault 7.1 offers a flexible array of configuration options to exactly match a customer’s unique mix of budget and feature requirements. In support of BakBone’s growth and customer acceptance in international markets, NetVault also offers improved support for international character sets.

NetVault 7.1 gives end-users enhanced platform support, improved performance and utilization, as well as operational scalability that enables the management of data protection of servers in mission-critical business environments. Feature highlights include:

· Enhanced platform support – added data protection support for the latest releases of vendors’ operating platforms including AIX, FreeBSD, Linux, HP-UX, SGI IRIX, TRU 64, Solaris (SPARC and Intel), Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, and SCO Openserver and Unixware. Version 7.1 builds upon and expands NetVault’s data protection solution for emerging Microsoft technologies through the integration with Volume Shadow Copy Services (VSS) introduced in Windows Server 2003

· Improved performance and utilization – includes:

o Media Manager Enhancements – media and resource scheduling performance improvements to support enterprise class libraries

o Backup Index Retention Control and Index Compression – controls NetVault database size by providing tools to control the amount of disk space utilized while ensuring all data file index records remain available for recovery

· Operational scalability – increased workload management and device support by leveraging existing hardware and network resources. Additional NetVault functionality includes:

o Mixed Media Support – seamlessly manages tape libraries capable of supporting multiple media and drive technologies in a single library instance

o Job Prioritization – improves ability to intelligently manage workloads by allowing an execution priority to be associated with each job
