New Suppliers Enter Nordic IP Telephony B2B Market, Says IDC

The Nordic IP telephony B2B market is changing from a first-mover market with a highly technological approach to a fast-growing business-oriented market where the vendors´ business understanding is crucial to future success.

According to a new series of Nordic IP telephony studies from IDC, the change in the market offers new opportunities to suppliers that can deliver both the technical installation and business advice on how to take advantage of the new technology. Previously, the Nordic IP telephony B2B market was dominated by suppliers with strictly technological competences.

"Telephony has become just another application in the company network," said Karsten Fogh Ho-Lanng, a senior analyst at IDC. "Those suppliers that are stuck in the technological discussion are already out of the race, while the future market leaders are those that are able to deliver the services necessary for the company to achieve real business advantages. And the basis for sustainable investment in IP telephony is very much improved and more efficient processes."

The studies show that Finland and Denmark are leading the development in the Nordic region. Sweden, however, is lagging, and one of the reasons for this is Ericsson´s strong historical position in the Swedish PBX market. Sweden accounts for only 27% of the total Nordic market. Finland and Denmark each account for 29% and Norway accounts for 15%.
