Brocade and EMC Team Up to Bring Storage Virtualization to Enterprise Data Centers

EMC Invista Running on the Brocade SilkWorm Fabric Application Platform to Bring High-Performance Virtualization and Migration Services to Customers

Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. (Brocade®) (Nasdaq: BRCD), a leading provider of infrastructure solutions for Storage Area Networks (SANs), today announced that EMC will begin shipping its EMC Invista storage network virtualization solution on the Brocade SilkWorm Fabric Application Platform on June 30, providing enterprise data centers with a powerful new tool for increasing application availability and optimizing their storage infrastructures.

Introduced this week at the EMC Technology Summit in New Orleans, Invista is a storage network-based virtualization solution that helps customers achieve non-disruptive operations, centralizes and streamlines volume management, and simplifies the movement of data across tiers of heterogeneous storage in support of their information lifecycle management (ILM) strategies. Key data center benefits of the solution include increased application availability, simplified data migrations, and improved storage utilization.

- Brocade and EMC have partnered for many years to provide long-term value to enterprise data centers, said Todd Oseth, Vice President, Storage Infrastructure Software, EMC Corporation.- Brocade plays a key role in EMC Invista´s ability to scale with the levels of performance, reliability and integrity required for enterprise deployment. Invista achieves this without introducing additional devices into the data path or forcing customers into the complexity of managing additional devices in their SAN.

The EMC Invista leverages the Connectrix AP-7420B, which EMC has been offering since September 2004 with Fibre Channel Routing Services. As part of an Invista environment, customers can leverage Brocade XPath technology, which offers dedicated per-port performance that is interoperable with Brocade SAN ports that are installed today. Invista is another solution offered by EMC on this platform to solve customer IT infrastructure challenges.

- Enterprise data center managers know that a virtualization solution from EMC and Brocade will provide the performance and reliability they require, said Tom Buiocchi, Vice President of Worldwide Marketing at Brocade.- We have worked closely with EMC on the EMC Invista solution to respond to the demand for new efficiencies in the data center, and to make sure that IT professionals can choose the best available technology for managing complex and heterogeneous storage environments.

The Connectrix AP-7420B is available immediately from EMC and will be supported by Invista at initial release. Brocade Storage Applications Services (SAS), which is used by Invista, is Brocade´s application interface based on the soon-to-be-approved FAIS standard, an open standards-based API for fabric applications.
