Nordic IT Security Product Market Set To Double in 5 Years, Says IDC
STOCKHOLM, Sweden, March 10, 2003 - The Nordic IT security market, including software and hardware, is expected to increase to $754 million in revenues by 2007, compared to revenues of $355 million in 2002. According to new IDC research, security hardware represents the strongest opportunity for growth, with a 20.7% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2002-2007.
The largest segment across the Nordic region is secure content management, with total revenue of $87 million in 2002. Token and smart cards and
firewall/VPN are two large, fast growing segments across the Nordic markets for IT security.
There is a clear trend for integrated products in the security market and vendors will need to consider partnerships and alliances or even mergers and alliances to be able to cope with increased complexity. As products become broader, development costs will increase and the need for global reach is becoming more expressed. As a result, we will see that the consolidation trend in the industry will continue. "Although there was only slow growth or even decline in the Nordic IT markets during 2002, our studies of the Nordic security markets show that security spending remains a top priority for most organizations," said Nils Molin, Senior Research
Analyst with IDC Nordic and one of the authors of the studies. "New corporate initiatives involving identity management will continue to fuel IT security growth over the next five years," Molin continued.
Success in the major security segments will be driven by the following four factors:
- A return to market growth for security administration, authorization, and authentication (3A)software due to the broad consumption of these technologies by identity management and Web services security.
- The increased use of VPN solutions and mobile applications will continue to fuel the firewall market.
- Blended threats will accelerate the development and integration of antivirus, SPAM, Web and email filtering products helping to grow the market.
- The continued popularity of security appliances as a means of delivering software due of the wide coverage of the products. In this way, a single appliance can solve multiple enterprise security needs.
