KIRK telecom A/S Launches Wireless IP Telephony
Horsens, Denmark, September 23, 2003. KIRK telecom A/S today announced that it has launched the KIRK System 1500 IP, allowing high quality DECT wireless voice solutions in IP telephony installations. Additionally, KIRK System 1500 IP, version 14088500_02N the system has met the test criteria of the Cisco AVVID (Architecture for Voice and Video Integrated Data) Partner program for interoperability with Cisco CallManager 3.2(3) spC- MCS. With this solution, KIRK telecom is strongly positioned in the growing market for IP telephony.
KIRK telecom joined the Cisco AVVID Partner Program as an IP Telephony participant. Through participation in the Cisco AVVID Partner Program, the KIRK System 1500 IP provides the full advantage of IP telephony to enterprise customers. The KIRK wireless IP telephony solution integrates innovative IP technology with the well known qualities of DECT wireless communications. The launch is made in response to the growing demand for wireless IP solutions among enterprise customers worldwide.
The Cisco AVVID Partner Program sets criteria for interoperability testing by independent third parties and enables leading product and services firms to deploy innovative business solutions. The program provides enterprise customers with information regarding Cisco AVVID partner products and services that an independent testing facility has tested and found to interoperate with Cisco networking technology.
IP telephony partners in the Cisco AVVID Partner Program expand customer choice with call processing, collaboration, and customer interaction solutions and services. These solutions are based on Cisco AVVID, a standards-based open architecture that provides enterprises with the foundation for advanced converged networks.
IP telephony partner solutions complement and extend Cisco AVVID with business applications that improve customer care, lower costs, and increase workforce productivity. These solutions include call accounting and billing, call processing, unified messaging, e-collaboration, and multimedia customer interaction.
With Cisco AVVID providing the architecture for a highly available, scalable, and unified network, IP telephony partner solutions interoperate with Cisco IP telephony products such as the Catalyst 6000 Series switches, Cisco CallManager, Cisco Media Convergence Server, Cisco Integrated Communications System, and Cisco IP IVR.
During the past three years, KIRK telecom estimates that US shipments of IP PBXs have increased to around 16% of total shipments.
“The business case for IP telephony is increasingly driven by measurable gains in end-user productivity and cost efficiency. For most businesses, it is no longer a question of if, but rather when IP is the choice. With our wireless IP telephony solution and the Cisco AVVID partner relationship, we are at the forefront of the market and aim to strengthen our position as the opportunities unfold," says Ole Lysgaard Madsen, sales and marketing director at KIRK telecom.
One of the first customers to deploy the wireless KIRK System 1500 IP is the Alexandra Institute of Aarhus, Denmark, where educational institutions and visionary companies have gathered their competencies to strengthen research, development, knowledge sharing, and education within IT.
“As a networking institution flexibility is very important to us, and that is why we have decided to switch to wireless IP telephony. We have chosen the KIRK System 1500 IP as this DECT based solution provides the high voice quality we demand," says Ole Lehrmann Madsen, CEO for the Alexandra Institute. NetDesign A/S, a KIRK telecom distributor and Cisco reseller, is responsible for the sales and installation of the Alexandra Institute solution.
“Cisco supports open, standards-based architectures and shares a commitment to interoperable solutions with KIRK telecom. Through this vision the Cisco AVVID Partner Program delivers the power of choice to enterprises – the ability to extend the Cisco end-to-end architecture with our participants’ solid products and technologies. Offerings such as the KIRK System 1500 IP, allow customers a broad range of business solutions that foster innovation and drive rapid adoption of business-critical technologies," said Mike Ansley, Europe, Middle-East, Africa marketing director of Advanced Technologies.
The KIRK System 1500 IP is based on the Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) technology, providing advantages such as unique voice quality, seamless handover between base stations, and calls that can not be hacked. The modular KIRK system, consisting of a Wireless Mobility Server and a number of base stations, wireless repeaters and wireless handsets, can be expanded and modified according to changing customer needs, securing return on investment.
