Enterprise Portal Services a Fast-Growing Market in Nordic Countries, Says IDC

One of the few areas in the IT consulting industry that has shown good growth over the past few years has been implementation of enterprise portals. In a recent study, IDC forecast that growth in this area will continue to grow at an impressive 20.7% CAGR between 2003 and 2008.

The underlying success of any EPS engagement is ultimately determined by whether users find portals useful in enhancing their decision making and productivity. As enterprise portal engagements rise in scope and complexity, they will require that service providers develop a wide range of both business and IT services skill sets and resources.

Service providers need to integrate business process management (BPM) capabilities with portal offerings to provide effective and efficient use of corporate information and applications. Service providers not only need in-depth business and technology expertise, they also need extensive domain industry capabilities to successfully deliver enterprise portal solutions.

"Enterprise portal solutions are a rapidly growing market opportunity because they assist enterprises in overcoming the barriers to what can be characterized as today´s ´complexity crisis,´" said Nils Molin, senior analyst at IDC Nordic. "The underlying vision of the enterprise portal is to empower and strengthen the relationship between the stakeholder, for example, employee, buyer, supplier, customer, regulator, or any constituent, and the enterprise, resulting in a mutually dynamic and productive experience that creates enterprise value. Enterprise portals essentially build dynamic bridges, or relationships, between stakeholders and enterprises."

The study, Nordic Enterprise Portal Services Forecast and Analysis, 2003–2008 (IDC #N560435L, May 2004), highlights the market for services around the rapidly expanding use of enterprise information portals in the Nordic countries.
