Nordic Broadband Markets Will Continue to Grow With Amazing Speed, Says IDC
Despite having the highest household penetration rates in Europe, the Nordic broadband markets will continue to grow with amazing speed over the next few years, according to new research from IDC.
With penetration rates of up to 15% of households, the Nordic broadband markets are among the most mature in Europe, but still they will continue to grow over the next five years.
"From now to 2008, we expect average annual growth rates of 16% in Denmark, 19% in Sweden, 21% in Finland, and 26% in Norway," said IDC´s Nordic Research Manager Karsten Fogh Ho-Lanng. "But the Internet service providers must prepare for a new competitive landscape, not only with the power suppliers as new players, but also with renewed competition from system integrators, content providers, and pan-European service providers."
New IDC studies also show that even though DSL and cable will hold on to their leading positions as preferred broadband access technologies, fiber-based metro Ethernet will take off in Denmark, Norway, and Finland as it has already in Sweden.
The results of IDC´s research are presented in a new series of studies: Finland/Sweden/Norway/ Denmark Broadband 2003 Vendor Shares and 2003–2008 Forecast (IDC #FI540423L, #SE540421L, #NO540424L, and #DK540422L, November 2004).
