Juniper Networks introduces Fips-Complaint operating systems for U.S. government certified security deployments
Enhanced ScreenOS Software For FW/VPN Appliances Extends Access Security To The Federal Level
SUNNYVALE, Calif., July 18, 2005 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced an enhanced ScreenOS real-time, security-specific operating system for its Firewall (FW) and IPSec Virtual Private Network (VPN) appliances that complies with the latest Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS). The Juniper Networks ScreenOS 5.0.0r9-FIPS operating system combined with the Juniper FW/VPN solutions offer government customers purpose-built, secure access appliances that meet the specific requirements and procurement practices of federal agencies.
"Federal agencies are directed to procure IT technologies that meet rigorous government certifications. When agencies follow this direction, they more successfully implement technology that minimizes risk, service disruption, and deployment costs. In the aggregate, such implementations will dramatically accelerate the flexibility for government agencies to deliver improved security access across federal networks," said John Trauth, vice president of Government Systems at Merlin Technical Solutions, Inc., a Juniper Networks reseller.
Thomas Kreidler, vice president of Juniper Networks Federal Systems, said, "We are very excited to provide the federal government with FW/VPN appliances that utilize a FIPS-compliant operating system. Juniper Networks provides the most secure FIPS certified FW/VPN solutions to meet the heightened security and technology needs of federal agencies."
ScreenOS 5.0.0r9-FIPS includes a robust set of security and management applications that has been certified to the Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 security benchmark. The FIPS 140-2 certification is the most recent U.S. Government stringent security standard for cryptographic modules. Administered by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technologies (NIST), and the Communications Security Establishment (CSE) of the Government of Canada, FIPS products specify security requirements designed to protect against potential threats, such as hacking and other cyber crimes. The IT security products that utilize cryptography and are sold into government agencies at the federal level must comply with these stringent standards.
Availability
The Juniper Networks ScreenOS 5.0.0r9-FIPS is available now for the NetScreen-5XT, -204, -208, -500, -5200, and -5400.
