New TOUGH duo deliver D-SLR image quality iHS technologies give TG-820 & TG-620 the edge

Copenhagen, 8 February 2012 - For super-rugged compact cameras, being super-rugged is no longer enough. Two next-generation OLYMPUS TOUGH compacts have set a new benchmark, by combining Olympus' trademark indestructibility* with superb picture quality. The secret is the new iHS (Intelligence, High Sensitivity and High Speed) family of technologies in the TG-620 and TG-820. iHS makes it possible to capture excellent images despite the lousy conditions outdoor lovers and extreme sports junkies often have to contend with when they're using their cameras. iHS harnesses the power of a new 12-Megapixel backlit CMOS sensor and the TruePic VI image processor (originally developed for D-SLR cameras) to dramatically improve low-light performance, speed up camera response and enhance scene and subject recognition. This transforms results with fast-moving subjects, night scenes and other tricky shots. Of course, both these TOUGH compacts are also waterproof*, shockproof* and freezeproof*. The TG-820 is even crushproof* to a weight of 100kg. So you can capture Full HD movies and still photos without having to worry about damaging your camera's high-grade components, including the precision 5x wide optical zoom (28mm-140mm**) and superlegible, scratch-resistant 3" 1,030,000-dot HyperCrystal III LCD (460,000 dots on the TG-620). Both TOUGH compacts are available from mid-February 2012, the TG-820 for DKK 2.399 and the TG-620 for DKK 2.099.

High performance, low maintenance On coral reefs, rock faces or adventure playgrounds, image quality has often been the second priority. Whether busy parent or adrenalin junky, most people are just happy if their camera gets home in one piece. But for new TOUGH owners it's different. They can have both: outstanding image quality from a camera with a worry-free guarantee. Of course, as the firstever manufacturer to deliver super-tough compacts, Olympus has ensured the TG-820 and T-620 are no less robust then their predecessors. What is different is iHS. This combination of advanced components means even people with an action-packed lifestyle can capture photos and Full HD movies to be proud of, no matter how fast their subject is moving nor how poor the light. With its high sensitivity and low noise capability, iHS powers a number of new Olympus features that take all the work out of capturing difficult shots. Like a blazing quick autofocus and HDR Backlight Adjustment that takes a collage of separate photos and blends them into one perfectly exposed image when you're shooting against the light. Or Multi-Motion Movie IS that lets you record virtually blur-free movies even when you're moving yourself. The lens on both cameras offers the flexibility to pull out wide or zoom in close for amazing action close-ups.

High quality, low stress
The new TG-820 is designed for people who take sport to the limit. It can handle just about anything you can throw at it.
Literally. It's crushproof* to a force of 100kg, waterproof* to a depth of 10 metres, shockproof to a height of 2m and freezeproof* to -10°C. If you're more into bike riding than free diving, the TG-620 is waterproof* to 5m, shockproof* from 1.5m and will likewise survive a night on the piste at -10°C. In addition to the sophisticated Olympus engineering that makes those stats possible, both cameras are packed with clever features that make it easier to get great shots outside. TAP Control Mode is typically thoughtful. It lets you operate the LCD of the TG-820 when you're wearing gloves simply by tapping or tilting the casing.
The OLYMPUS TOUGH TG-820 costs DKK 2.399 and the TG-620 DKK 2.099. Both are available from mid-February 2012.
