Marydee Ojala: Information search on the internet: What's new with web search: things to embrace and things to avoid!

VidenDanmark presents Marydee Ojala, USA, in master class november 21st. Although knowledge managers and other information professionals have an edge over the rest of the world when it comes to search skills and specialized resources, we are not immune from the siren call of Google and other web search engines.

We do recognize that, to prove our value, we must know more about search than they do. Constant change is the hallmark of web searching. To keep our edge, we need to be diligent about keeping up with the changes, but finding the time to do this is a problem.

This masterclass will fill in the gaps in your web search knowledge, give you the most current information on what established search engines are up to, and introduce some newer search engines and resource-rich sites. It will also provide you with insights into the nature of web search as opposed to traditional online search, examine when to opt for a fee-based service over a free web search, and suggest approaches to web research.

The Master Class leader is Marydee Ojala, Editor-in-Chief Online Searcher: Information Discovery, Technologies, Strategies and writes its business research column ('The Dollar Sign').

A long-time observer of the information industry, she speaks frequently at conferences, such as WebSearch University, Computers in Libraries, Internet Librarian, Internet Librarian International, Online Information (London, UK), and national library meetings outside the U.S.

She contributes feature articles and news stories to many industry publications and Information Today's NewsBreaks. Her blog is ONLINEInsider.net.

She has adjunct faculty status at the School of Library and Information Science at IUPUI (Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis) teaching courses on business information and online searching.

Her professional career began at BankAmerica Corporation, San Francisco, directing a worldwide program of research and information services.
