Allied Telesis Wins Contract with Tiscali for its Integrated Access Devices

Intelligent Multiservice Gateways Underpin the ISP's Unbundled Local Loop Service in Germany and Reduce Time-to-Market by Several Months

Allied Telesis, a global provider of secure Ethernet/IP access solutions and an industry leader in the deployment of IP Triple Play networks over copper and fiber access infrastructures, today announced that it has signed a contract with Tiscali in Germany for the provision of its iMG664W gateways to drive its recently-launched Surf & Talk unbundled local loop service. Tiscali, one of Europe's leading ISPs with over 7 million customers, selected Allied Telesis' integrated access devices due to their flexible implementation options, including both analog and ISDN telephone ports; their inbuilt support for LANs and WLANs; and their Zero Touch management and TR-69 options which have dramatically reduced the time-to-market that Tiscali had initially planned for the rollout of its Surf & Talk service.

After telecommunications services were liberalized in Germany in early 1998 and the rapid adoption of broadband throughout the country since 2000, the market for unbundled local loop (ULL) services has been steadily growing. Preparing its ULL offering in 2005, Tiscali initiated a search for powerful, versatile, and dependable gateway devices optimized for triple-play services while offering unparalleled LAN, WLAN, ISDN, and analog communications to cover the varying needs of its entire customer spectrum. These demanding requirements were all met by Allied Telesis's iMG664W gateway products, which also include the Zero Touch Configurator (ZTC) software. ZTC is a distributed configuration system based on the industry-standard LDAP database architecture, enabling Tiscali to simultaneously and remotely configure up to 1000's of integrated access devices from its headquarters near Frankfurt while ensuring top-flight security and quality of service. Tiscali laid the first foundation stone for the construction of its own ULL infrastructure in Frankfurt at the end of 2005 and is rapidly expanding the service throughout the country. It can now offer customers a one-stop shop for reliable, high-performance unbundled telephone and internet access services at attractive prices.
