BakBone Software announces support for 64-bit Linux on IBM eServer pSeries systems
STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN — April 20, 2004 — BakBone Software, a global provider of data backup and recovery software, today announced BakBone’s NetVault software is now supported across all IBM eServer™ pSeries™ systems running 64-bit Linux on IBM’s Power Architecture™ processors. This announcement follows IBM’s recently announced support for BakBone’s Linux Advantage program, a joint marketing and development initiative.
BakBone’s support for the IBM eServer pSeries platform helps ensure data protection solution for enterprise applications running on Linux. As more users consolidate Linux and Open Source applications to meet the on-demand computing needs of today, NetVault allows customers to migrate to Linux without sacrificing their data protection strategies. The solution provides customers the flexibility of Linux and the performance of IBM´s Power Architecture technology.
“BakBone is recognized as the leader in Linux based backup and recovery," said Adrian Jones, senior vice president, Worldwide Alliances and OEMs at BakBone Software. “Our collaboration with IBM and its pSeries platform extends BakBone’s support for Linux in the data center. Whether your business is a small, medium or large enterprise, you can scale Linux based data protection on POWER technology with BakBone’s NetVault."
BakBone utilizes Linux as the base development platform for NetVault, which ensures that the entire NetVault product stack runs natively on Linux. By combining BakBone’s data protection expertise with the IBM eServer pSeries server, customers can maximize the benefits of Linux on pSeries. BakBone’s solution is designed to help reduce costs, consolidate workloads and integrate customers on demand computing environments without having to sacrifice their data protection strategies. Through BakBone’s advanced data recovery solution for storage networks, customers will be able to back up and restore greater amounts of data with less disruption and increased protection of critical information.
IBM’s Power Architecture™ technology is a leading industry solution for 64-bit applications. IBM’s Power Architecture technology offers customers open, innovative technology solutions using either the AIX 5L™, OS/400® or Linux operating systems that complement the growing demand for 64-bit applications.
