R&M fulfills current cabling standards according to Class EA and Cat. 6A
STAR Real10 from R&M exceeds the channel requirements of ISO IEC 11801 Class EA and EIA/TIA 568B Cat. 6A
Wetzikon, March 2008.
New standards for the planners of high performance data networks. The responsible bodies from ISO/IEC and EIA/TIA have recently approved two new standards for cabling. The new ISO/IEC standard 11801 ed. 2002 adm. 1 Class EA specifies higher performance than the EIA/TIA 568B.2-10 Cat. 6A standard, which was also just released. The Swiss cabling specialist Reichle & De-Massari has released information for planners and installers, as well as a current statement at www.rdm.com.
The requirements of the ISO/IEC 11801 ed. 2002 adm. 1 Class EA are especially demanding. They exceed the channel requirements according to EIA/TIA 568B.2-10 Cat. 6A, as well as the requirements of IEEE 802.3an (10GB/s Ethernet) and ISO/IEC TR 24750. The ISO/IEC standard offers the user more margin and therefore higher operational reliability.
As a leading supplier of cabling solutions, R&M actively participates in the creation of new standards. With the shielded version of the STAR Real10 assortment from the R&Mfreenet cabling system, R&M has offered a solution on the market since 2000 which has completely fulfilled the channel specification of the approved standards for eight years. For the unshielded world R&M developed a solution with WARP technology which effectively controls the critical alien crosstalk parameter.
“With STAR Real10 our customers get the ideal infrastructure for 10 Gigabit Ethernet, as well as for future protocols – regardless of whether they prefer shielded or unshielded solutions", said Stefan Ries, Vice President Private Networks at R&M and member of the ISO/IEC SC25 WG3 standards committee.
Whereas EIA/TIA has already completed the specifications for individual components, ISO/IEC is still working on them. The ISO/IEC components will be named Cat. 6A. In contrast, EIA/TIA uses the Cat. 6A terminology for both the channel and the components. R&M recommends looking carefully at products which are offered as Cat. 6A solutions. “Cat. 6A components according to EIA/TIA do not automatically guarantee a Class EA channel according to ISO/IEC", said Stefan Ries. The cabling specialist R&M consistently specifies structured cabling systems according to ISO/IEC.
For a long-term functioning LAN which supports future demanding applications, R&M recommends planning the cabling according to the new ISO/IEC Class EA standard. Class EA provides consistent, continuous performance across the entire channel and better protection of the signal transmission to 500 MHz, which is used for 10 Gigabit Ethernet.
With STAR Real10 R&M offers the currently highest performing and already million fold installed complete solution for data networks. A channel composed of Real10 components exceeds the requirements of Class EA and all other 10 Gigabit Ethernet relevant standards.
