Small is Big: Flexible four way cable sharing with the

Reichle & De-Massari has developed a new cable sharing solution for standard RJ45 jacks, supporting performance classes Cat. 5e and Cat 6. The RMS45 is a microsplitter which allows patch cord connectors to be assembled on site. The die-cast zinc splitter is located inside the RJ45 jack and can be installed or removed in just one single step. This innovative product complies with relevant standards and can be integrated in the R&Mfreenet LAN cabling system.

RMS45 supports the performance classes Cat. 5e and Cat. 6 for telephony and network applications requiring fast ethernet. Unlike conventional adapters, the splitter does not protrude from the outlet thanks to a flat frame that fits on to the outside of the jack. Numbers and individual colour clips can be inserted into the frame, marking the four plug-in positions.

R&M UK’s Managing Director, Justin Bewick, says "With the RMS45 microsplitter solution cabling sharing has never been easier with the existing structured cabling remaining unchanged. The splitter is used only where multiple use of a link is deemed absolutely necessary. Once the need for cable sharing is no longer needed, the RMS45 microsplitter can be removed and used elsewhere."

Unshielded as well as shielded cables, up to a diameter of 5.5 mm, are compatible with RMS45 connectors. They are wired with Insulation Displacement Contact (IDC). Up to four services can be made available with the one-pair connector, e.g. telephone connections, via a RJ45 jack. With a two-pair connector, jack use is doubled: e.g. as a LAN connection for PC and VoIP terminal equipment.
