New research: Bingo players postpones retirement

A recently published study by Rush University Medical Center in Chicago shows that people who play bingo regularly is more likely to perform better when they get older. The study reveals among other things, that those who engage in social activities at the beginning of their retirement are more likely to perform better later in their retirement.

The study, which took place over many years, is based on 954 elderly people in the beginning of their retirement were asked to complete the questionnaire on their leisure activities. When they reached the age of 80, they were asked how many of their daily activities, they were still able to perform themselves without help. Those who had participated in social activities, including bingo, were found to have twice as much chance of getting a more active aging and independent life compared with those who had not been socially active.

According dementia specialist Bryan James, the results are a strong testament to how important it is to stay active and that in addition to physical activities is also important to include social interaction with other people, if you want to strengthen both mind and body.
