Paperplain Launches Civilised Selection of Social Stationery Online
The popularity of electronic messaging does nothing to improve social graces in the UK, with people firing off a quick email or SMS instead of sending a personalised missive on luxury writing paper. With a more thoughtful approach to writing in mind, Paperplain, a retailer of social stationery, is launching its new website at Paperplain.net.
Monika Day, director of Paperplain, comments: “It’s not entirely a grim picture with civilised interpersonal communication these days! Social stationery has become a fashionable commodity. Many top fashion houses such as Gucci, L. Vuitton, Kate Spade, Lulu Guinness and Tiffanys carry their own ranges. Email and phone calls still can’t replace a printed, personalised announcement or invitation for those milestone events in life. After all, would you announce your new baby’s arrival or your daughter’s wedding by text message? It hardly has a special feel."
Paperplain sells an extensive range of correspondence cards, writing paper, unusual invitations and announcements, and attractive envelopes to send them in style. The personalised stationery is available in seven different formats, 21 colours, 10 scripts and coloured inks to ensure customers will find stationery to suit any occasion - from a children’s party to a silver wedding anniversary. The stationery comes in designs ranging from classic to ‘funky’, uses high quality paper, and is presented in attractive boxes. Also available are witty party invitations, birth announcements, compliment slips and an extensive collection of children´s stationery.
Monika Day says: “Parents are still instructing their children to send thank you notes and personal invitations in writing, instead of a quick ‘cheerz 4 the gift m8’ or ‘r u up 4 mtng tmrw’ by text. This is much more likely to impress the Aunt or Grandma who has sent a birthday present and expects a suitable response!"
She adds: “Social stationery has seen a big revival in recent years. Nothing beats a thoughtful, hand written message on beautiful stationery in a tissue lined envelope. In this increasingly impersonal age of technology, it’s an almost universally welcomed gesture."
As Paperplain does its own printing in house, the lead time on orders is unusually short and print runs can be for as few as, say, 20 correspondence cards, compared to rival stationers which tend to have minimum print runs of 100. Personalised stationery can be delivered within two to three working days. Products can be bought in batches of five to 50, with prices starting from as little as £4.50. A free catalogue can be obtained from http://www.paperplain.net.
After almost 20 years as an underwriter for Lloyds’ of London, Monika Day launched Paperplain in 2000. Paperplain has exhibited at the Daily Telegraph House and Garden Show every year. The company is based in Maida Vale, London, and employs six people.
