ICW offers testimony on Personal Health Records to American Health Information Community

Washington, DC, August 21, 2006 – The American Health Information Community’s (AHIC) Consumer Empowerment Workgroup recently received information from invited panelists and the public on personal health records (PHRs), their functions, features, current usage, interoperability capabilities, and importance to health care. Testimony from InterComponentWare (ICW) featured information on its LifeSensor® PHR.

In his oral testimony, Mark Wallin, Vice President Business Development and Sales for ICW stated, “As a PHR capable of true interoperability, it [i.e. LifeSensor] links patients to their medical providers and practitioners and enables the efficient exchange of health-related information. With access to the PHR, authorized physicians can obtain an overview of patient history and other health data." ICW also submitted additional written testimony.

ICW’s PHR solution, LifeSensor, supports consumer empowerment by providing a medical primary system to the patient in which all relevant personal health data can be stored in a safe and concise way. Due to its interoperability capabilities, LifeSensor can also serve as a platform for patient authorized data sharing with all stakeholders in healthcare delivery.

ICW is engaged in a number of discussions in the US covering a cross-section of opportunities including PHR-centric interoperability and regional eHealth infrastructure networks.
