Concrete lasts longer when treated with a new product certified according to European standard EN 1504-2

Greater and greater demands are made of the safety and durability of motorway bridges, apartment blocks and other constructions where concrete is of structural importance. At the same time, water, air pollution, wear and tear and the changing seasons all take their toll. Now, a new product, ConGuard, protects concrete so efficiently that it has recently been certified according to European concrete standard EN 1504-2.

"The tests replicate conditions out-of-doors such as summer and winter, night and day, and frosts and thaws. One of the tests involved soaking a block of concrete treated with ConGuard and an un-treated block in water for 24 hours. The blocks were then frozen at minus 35°C for 24 hours, whereafter they were kept at 18°C for a further 24 hours. This cycle was repeated 100 times, and if left the untreated block as no more than a pile of sand, whereas the block that had been treated with ConGuard was completely intact," says Director Nina Reinert from Iso Paint Nordic A/S who manufacture ConGuard nano-impregnation from their new purpose built facility.

ConGuard is a nano-technological product that forms a membrane that covers the concrete, allowing water to leave the concrete but not to enter it.

"We recommend ConGuard to builders and concrete element manufacturers; it’s also an excellent product for public sector buildings as it can protect their building investments. Buildings built and planned today, should be preserved so that they look just as good, and are just as safe, for at least 100 years into the future," says Director Nina Reinert.
