Dantherm Power Inc. Established to provide clean, reliable backup power solutions to North American market
Telecom and Broadband network operators in North America now have improved access to backup power systems that meet new requirements for reliability, extended runtime and environmental friendliness. Building on the success in Europe since 2003, Dantherm Power A/S, a world leading company in the field of fuel cell-based backup power supply systems, is now setting up operations in the United States as Dantherm Power Inc. to better serve its North American customers.
The original parent company, Dantherm Air Handling A/S, is already well known in North America and has been a major supplier to Telecom companies around the globe for over ten years. Each year the company produces many thousands of climate control units to cool the electronics within the Telco OEM equipment that power the world’s networks. Dantherm Power’s commercially available hydrogen fuelled backup power systems provide the necessary high levels of reliability to ensure 24/7 network availability, even during power grid outages. Accommodating supplier reduction trends within the Telecom industry, Dantherm can now provide its North American customers with both thermal management and backup power solutions.
“The United States is a large and growing market so it makes sense for us to reinforce our company’s position there. Investing in our people and facilities in this local market ensures that we remain in touch with our customers’ evolving needs," explains Per Albæk, CEO of both Dantherm Power A/S and Dantherm Power Inc. This view is enthusiastically backed by Tom Ollila, Business Development and Market Manager at the newly established entity: “By establishing Dantherm Power Inc. in the United States, we are moving closer to our customers. Local presence ensures that our products are specifically tailored to suit local requirements," he stresses. The move also enhances the company’s ability to provide its North American customers with first-class service and support.
The technology of the future is here today
Requirements for backup power systems for communication networks were significantly tightened by Industry and Government regulators (such as the Federal Communications Commission, FCC) in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Such disasters as well as more benign disruptions to the power grid put stress on wireless networks which are becoming more and more critical to the people that use them.
“Dantherm Power’s backup power systems are very reliable and feature runtimes far in excess of the eight hours recommended by the FCC. Moreover, our units require less maintenance, are quieter and emit far fewer pollutants than traditional backup power solutions such as batteries and engine generator sets," explains Per Albæk.
The new company will be based in Spartanburg, South Carolina, co-located with an existing facility of its sister company, Dantherm Air Handling. “Dantherm Air Handling already supplies cooling systems to the telecom industry, so we are well positioned to better serve our customers through the synergy associated with a solid foothold in such a significant world market," says Per Albæk.
Dantherm Power is one of the first companies in the world to have made hydrogen and fuel cell technology competitive with conventional backup solutions. By establishing a base in the United States, Dantherm Power will deliver the advantages of this clean and reliable technology to its North American customers.
