British Study Centres Easter Courses for Juniors

The British Study Centres/ICH Easter camp for juniors got under way this week in brilliant spring sunshine. The camp is taking place at Ardingly College in the glorious Sussex countryside near Brighton. Students aged 10-15 years are enjoying a packed programme of morning English classes followed by afternoon activities. This week students have enjoyed table tennis, bench ball, swimming, sailing, bowling, badminton, tennis, basketball, dance, a quiz night, a disco, a half day trip to Tunbridge Wells, a full-day trip to London and a truly scary ghost tour of the college grounds. Never a dull moment!

Ardingly College

Our junior vacation centre offers the best of both worlds: a perfect setting for learning English while having fun in the beautiful English countryside.

At Ardingly, we offer juniors the opportunity to combine the learning of English with sports, activities and visits to exciting places. The programme is open to young learners aged 10-15 years at Easter and in July and August.

Learning in English, living in English... thinking in English.

Outstanding location and facilities

Ardingly is located in West Sussex in the south east of England in a region designated as an "Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty". It is only 40 minutes by train from central London and 18 miles from the popular English seaside resort of Brighton.

The nearby airports of London Heathrow (40 miles) and London Gatwick (9 miles) make Ardingly an attractive and convenient location for overseas visitors.

The very best in learning facilities

• Spacious classrooms (all with whiteboards and audio equipment)
• Access to TV & DVD
• IT room with internet access (supervised by our staff)

Situated in 250 acres of rolling countryside and surrounded by farms and woodlands, the college enjoys all the benefits of space and the outdoor lifestyle, while retaining easy access to the busy centres of Brighton, Royal Tunbridge Wells and London.

Unique learning experience

There is an extraordinarily warm friendly atmosphere in and around the college campus, making students feel happy, safe and secure during their time at Ardingly.

Buddy system

We operate a buddy system. Each staff member is directly responsible for the welfare and happiness of their buddy group. This includes constantly checking on students’ welfare, (especially the younger students, to ensure they are eating properly, looking after personal hygiene, and keeping their rooms tidy) and accounting for students at roll call and during fire alarms. The buddy system works particularly well for individual students who do not have a visiting group leader at the college.

Our students are supervised closely throughout the day. There is a staff to student ratio of at least 1:15 on site at the college and 1:8 off site during the trips and excursions.

Accommodation and welfare

The accommodation consists of two new comfortable houses (male and female) accommodating students in mainly single and twin-bedded rooms with adjacent bathroom, shower and toilet facilities. Each room has its own washbasin. Rooms for 3 or 4 students can also be organised. Both houses have spacious common room areas with TV and video facilities where students can relax with friends.

Sports & leisure facilities

• Indoor heated swimming pool with a resident lifeguard
• 18 tennis courts
• Indoor sports centre (basketball, football and badminton)
• Outside playing fields (football, volleyball, team-games, etc)
• Theatre
• Disco hall
