University holds Early Years event
People interested in training to work with under-fives are invited to attend an Early Years event at the University of Greenwich on Wednesday, 29 April.
The university offers Early Years Professional Status (EYPS) for those working with children under the age of five. It is holding an open evening to offer information on the course to potential future students and celebrate past students who have successfully completed EYPS.
Early Years Professionals will be able to manage children’s centres, set standards of care and act as mentors to fellow workers.
The university is one of only 35 accredited universities in the UK to provide the EYPS course, which is aimed at meeting government targets to have an Early Years Professional in all children’s centres by 2010, and in all full day-care centres by 2015.
EYPS is a graduate level status, so an undergraduate degree is required, but students with an Early Years Foundation degree, or equivalent, can ‘top up’ their qualification while they train.
The university offers all four ‘pathways’ to gain EYPS, ranging from four months to 15 months, and a student’s skills and expertise in early years determines the pathway they will follow. They are also presented the opportunity to gain a BA Hons degree. The course is fully funded by the Children’s Workforce Development Council (CWDC).
The event is being held at the Avery Hill campus in Eltham on Wednesday 29 April, and runs from 4pm to 8pm. For details on how to attend the event, visit www.gre.ac.uk/eyps or contact Donna Briant on 020 8331 7662.
