Nordic Rail 2009: SMA and HaCon on target for Northern Europe

Hannover. Railway issues are often complex and require co-operation between politicians, the business community and industry experts. All of them meet at the leading fair for the railway sector in Northern Europe, Nordic Rail, in Jönköping in the south of Sweden. SMA AG, the Swiss specialist for transportation, traffic and operation, and HaCon take advantage of this forum to present their latest innovations on a joint stand from October 6th to 8th 2009.

The Train Planning System TPS is an innovative tool for managing train schedules and network capacity. With TPS, schedules can be created, reviewed and evaluated more efficiently than ever, always taking into account the special requirements of the path management on national and European level. Meanwhile the scope of using TPS is also covering very short term planning, introducing real time data feeding and decision support for dispatchers.

The presentation of TPS at this year’s Nordic Rail will be focussing the capability of TPS to interact with Viriato supplied by SMA. Viriato is widely used by train operating companies for the creation of service and operational concepts, for example. The partners now provide interfaces that ensure the data flow from Viriato to TPS so that synergistic benefits can be realised.

Effortless short-term dispatching with TPS
Further TPS-innovations are especially interesting for short-term planning within 48 hours: real time information can be integrated into TPS via the standard interfaces UIC 407-1 and TAF/TSI. This way, planners always know the details of the exact positions of trains to be disposed. Also, additional data, such as technical information relating to trains and freight or data about construction sites or signal failures are communicated in real time. Hence, TPS is covering all aspects of the operative planning process. Furthermore, visitors have the chance to experience live at Nordic Rail, how capacity management and possession planning with TPS is done more efficiently than ever.

To companies and organisations, Nordic Rail has become a forum for finding out news, sharing experiences and discussing railway-related issues. Since the fair was first initiated in 1995, the number of visitors has doubled to 4,800. In 2007 more than 230 exhibitors from 19 countries gathered on the fair ground that covers 6,380 square metres.

SMA and HaCon are looking forward to seeing you in hall D, Stand D03.80 and 81.
