NetworkedPlanet launches industry first web 3.0 search engine
NetworkedPlanet, the leading vendor of information management tools and solutions, has launched "Subj3ct", a major new repository and search engine of web Identifiers. Web developers of semantic-ware and Web 3.0 applications can now, for the first time, locate relevant Identifiers – the meta data that links pages of related content together – quickly and easily. Subj3ct has been launched in Beta and can be visited at www.subj3ct.com.
The launch of Subj3ct gives a wide range of web developers the tools to continue with the progression of online technologies and services integration. The linkages between identifiers make it easier for service providers to create mash-ups that contain relevant content, because the research function is fully automated. Developers can now simply use Subj3ct to find the Identifiers of topics that they would like to include in their mash-up and the content itself can be automatically located and linked in.
"When we talk about mash-ups, the line between Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 begins to blur a little," commented Kal Ahmed, Founder of NetworkedPlanet. "If you look at some of the pioneers of this approach – primarily media providers such as the BBC or The Guardian – they are using identifiers and a Web 3.0 approach. There are literally millions of mash-ups across the web that are a result of developers´ hard work finding relevant content; Subj3ct will help to cut down on the research function and enable these developers to spend more time on creating innovative applications.
"Identifiers, when used in an application, can garner an understanding of what a web user is talking about, not simply what they´re saying. This enables someone searching for a music band, for example, to find a range of different resources on them, without necessarily containing specific text relating to each of those pages. These new applications could, for example, create an instant mash-up that pools information from the band´s official website, a site such as MusicBrainz – which contains track information etc – biographies from Wikipedia and information from Ticketmaster," Kal Ahmed continued.
The widespread use of standardised Identifiers across the web will enable anyone to quickly and easily link into a wide range of relevant, content-rich sites – thus semantically linking the web: Web 3.0.
