power and cooling for data centres conference to focus on reducing cost and energy consumption

The 4th Annual Power and Cooling for Data Centres, which takes place in London 22 October 2009 (www.datacentres.com/pac) will host an outstanding panel of international experts to address the latest assessment of cost and energy consumption now confronting all data centres.

The theme of this year’s conference which will be opened by Catalina McGregor, Chief Whitehall Advisor, MOD DE&S DSA, is the use of innovation to reduce cost and energy consumption, and increase efficiency in data centres. The one-day event will present an array of new solutions emerging to tackle cost - the most critical issue in data centres today. A free copy of BroadGroup’s new report Power and Cooling Innovations will also be provided to each conference delegate.

Roy Zeighami, Principal Cooling/Energy Architect, Business Critical Systems Division at Hewlett Packard will provide a thought provoking address on design for low power density for IT equipment. By designing data centres for less dense systems, users could support lower power per system due to less restricted airflow, lower cost per system and higher operating temperatures, resulting in increased free cooling.

The conference will also feature a completely new panel, chaired by Marion Howard-Healy, senior consultant at BroadGroup which will assess Natural Solutions and includes Maurice Julian, Data Centre Manager, HP (EDS) Wynyard, the first large scale data centre in Europe to use free air cooling, Burton Hamner, Co-Founder and President, Hydrovolts, Greg Mason, Data Centre Specialist, Atlantis Resources Corporation, Rennie Dalrymple, Partner, Bruce Shaw Partnership and Donal Mac Nioclais, Commercial Development, Aquamarine Power.

Other expert speakers include Bernard Lecanu, Member of European Commission Green IT Group, Alex Rabbetts, Managing Director, Migration Solutions, Rod Evans, Managing Director, SGI, John Berendzen, AIA, LEED AP, Fox Architects, Joe Polastre, Chief Technology Officer, Sentilla Corporation, Dr Ian F Bitterlin, Chief Technical Officer, Prism Power Ltd, Kate Craig-Wood, Managing Director, Memset Ltd, Miles Gray, Hardware Platform Architect, Department of Health Informatics Directorate, Michalis Grigoratos, Senior Design & Sustainability Consultant, Halcrow Yolles, Zahl Limbuwala, Romonet, Ashley R Davis, Managing Director, JPMorgan, Mike Manos, Senior Vice President, Digital Realty, Lex Coors, Director of Engineering at Interxion HQ, Mees Lodder, Director, Kyoto Cooling, Andrew Mercer, CEO 20Degrees, Mark Acton, Data Centre Optimisation EMEA Lead, Dell, Roland Broch, Business Development, Datacenter Star Audit, eco - Verband der deutschen Internetwirtschaft e.V.

“Power is at the forefront of data centre design, location and cost," commented Steve Wallage, managing director of BroadGroup Consulting who will provide a review of the market at the conference. “The annual forum brings tremendous focus to these critical issues, reviews the very latest ideas and knowledge, and provides in one intensive day direct takeaways for users and managers."

The Power and Cooling annual event attracts a unique international audience mix, almost half of which are C level, and senior executives. Operations, data centre managers and engineers typically comprise of around one third of attendees. Advance ticket discounts are open until 21st October. Email enquiries@datacentres.com
