New Globetrotters motorcycle tours in France. Spain, Morocco

Close to the Mediterranean, in the French Pyrenees, a village nestles on the side of a locally famous mountain “Canigou". Available to rent within the village are charming Catalan style villas owned by the Scancinavian couple Erik and Anette Gundersen of “Village Catalan". They have lived in the area for 20 years and it is with enthusiasm that they can tell customers about the many good excursions available. These include organised motorcycle tours of the mountain roads in France, Spain and Andorra, all of which are easily reached from Village Catalan.

Since 1973 Erik has been arranging long-distance trips and expeditions off the beaten track in Africa, Asia and Europe. He rides a BMW R1150GS on tours and a Suzuki 650DR on the small mountain roads in the Pyrenees.

The village lies in the Languedoc-Roussillon and is an ideal centre for motorcycle day trips to Spain, Andorra and France taking in the many good small roads, both asphalt and mountain tracks. The advantage of a holiday centre is of course that you need not pack luggage every day and a support vehicle is not required. Nevertheless, support is available! If you require help or advice Eric and his team are always nearby with the appropriate vehicle should you need a recovery service. Village Catalan has something nearby for all the family: hot springs, good hiking, culture, gastronomy. The homes cater for 2, 4 or 6 people with enclosed parking safe enough for motorcycles. Accommodation costs from 355 to 820 Euros per week, price depending on season, and Globetrotters members get 10% discount.

France, Spain, Morocco in October

The Morocco motorcycle return trip commences 9th October 2010 starting from Village Catalan. We ride down through Spain and Morocco through the Atlas Mountains and down to the Sahara. Morocco is a world without GPS maps and has a “so foreign" culture that an organized group ensures you get the most out of your trip. Erik has organized many tours in Morocco in the past and has many friends in the local villages. The journey will ensure that we get close to the local people, there will be many great cultural experiences in store. The trip has a humanitarian aspect with the opportunity to help the hospitable mountain people improve their living conditions. Not least a popular local village doctor who is treating the poor for free but lacks the most basic equipment. Accommodation is sometimes in comfortable hotels, village houses or camping. This way you will experience the charm and generosity of the local villagers, enjoy camping under the stars and have the comfort of your own privacy once in awhile in a hotel. Participants must have a portion of pioneering spirit to make the most of this adventure holiday!

The trip is 3 weeks with your own motorcycle, of which 2 weeks are spent in Morocco. It is a road tour with support vehicle. An alternative connection is possible meeting in Malaga for a 2-week trip on October 16 to 30, or at Marrakesh where a rented motorbike will be made available. Participant cost is provisionally set at 1950 Euros .
