TOTAL and Stena Recycling in national collaboration to recycle waste oil

Stena Recycling and TOTAL SWEDEN have started a nationwide collaboration for the recycling of hazardous waste. The collaboration covers the recycling of used lubricants, principally from car garages from all across Sweden.

Large quantities of used engine oil and other hazardous waste accumulate constantly, not least at the country´s car garages during servicing and repairs. A large proportion of the oil is recycled and purified to provide new base oil products that can be used again.
"It is important that the oil is taken care of in a safe and environmentally sound way during the entire recycling process. It creates a significant environmental benefit, since the oil will be reused," says Martin Holmen, Account Manager at Stena Recycling.

Through this collaboration, TOTAL SWEDEN can develop its services and offer its Swedish customers a complete solution for dealing with waste products. This includes analysis, sorting, collection, transport and treatment of all hazardous waste. An innovative part of the collaboration is the so-called tank tracking. An increasing number of workshops are using oil tanks equipped with a transmitter that sends a message when it is time to collect. The technique minimizes transports and simplifies waste treatment for workshop customers.
"The GSM technique provides us with the current filling levels in the workshops´ waste tanks. At the same time, we always know where our tankers are. In this way we can collect the waste when a notification is received and a vehicle is in the vicinity," says Martin Holmen.
