The best destination for tourism and hospitality

The University of Surrey has achieved a remarkable triple-first – coming top in the country for Tourism and Hospitality in three prestigious national guides.

It is rare for any university to triumph in all three guides – The Guardian, The Times Good University Guide and The Independent.

Professor Andrew Lockwood, Head of the Division of Hospitality and Tourism and Associate Dean of Learning and Teaching, commented: “I am delighted that all the hard work and commitment that my colleagues in tourism, hospitality and food management put into supporting students in their professional and educational development has been recognised in this way´.

The University was ranked according to measures in various key performance areas including, Student Satisfaction, Research Quality, Entry Standards, Student-Staff Ratios, Services & Facilities Spend, Completion, Good Honours and Graduate Prospects.

Professor John Tribe, Head of the Tourism Subject Group, added: “I am delighted that Tourism and Hospitality courses at Surrey have been ranked at the top of the major subject league tables in the Guardian, Times and Independent newspapers.

“This result confirms Surrey as the top UK centre for research and teaching in Tourism and Hospitality and as one of the leading institutions worldwide in this subject. Our leading position enables us to recruit the very best students to our undergraduate programmes. Our reputation also offers Surrey graduates a real advantage in the market place and this is confirmed by the high level posts held by Surrey graduates throughout the tourism industry."

The University of Surrey has the longest-established centre for tourism and hospitality studies in England and is particularly noted for its close links with the industry. Its courses offer excellent employment prospects with 98 per cent of graduates being employed within six months of obtaining their degrees.
