Chance to share memories of the blitz
People who experienced the Blitz are invited to share their memories on Saturday, September 4, at Firepower, the Royal Artillery Museum in Woolwich.
Firepower and the University of Greenwich have joined forces to hold a Blitz Witness Day enabling people to share their personal experiences with other Blitz survivors. They are also being invited to contribute to the university’s new Memories of War project.
The project, led by Dr June Balshaw, Head of Social, Political & Cultural Studies at the University of Greenwich, is bringing together memories of the Second World War from hundreds of civilians and service people from across London and the South East to create a new oral history archive.
An exhibition based on contributors’ stories of bombings, evacuation, life on the home front and service at home and overseas will be held at the University of Greenwich from 17 September to 15 October in the Stephen Lawrence Gallery.
The Blitz Witness Day at Firepower will start at 11am. To reserve a place or for further information about contributing to the Memories of War project, call 0208 331 7874 or email: memoriesofwar(AT)gre.ac.uk.
