Safety in the Oil&Gas Industry Mines and Tunnels increased significantly by new technology and sales partnership.

The increasing demand for safety solutions at harsh environmental work places as oil rigs, mines and tunnels has resulted in a partnership between IDENTEC SOLUTIONS from Austria and ZONITH from Denmark. The two companies each provides advanced access, safety and alarm handling solutions. By combining the technologies of the two companies it is not just possible to control access to the harsh environmental work places but also ensure a much faster and accurate reaction to any emergency situation occurring. The combined solution has with success already been deployed at a number of large construction projects in the Swedish capital Stockholm.

Identec Solutions ensures accurate information about Staff in the Working Area
It is of evident importance and also a legal requirement in many countries that the owner of a mine, tunnel or oil & gas installation at any time knows who is present inside the facility. For this purpose Identec Solutions supplies their active RFID (Radio Frequency ID) solutions to the industry where all employees wear a unique identification RFID tag. When the employee enters or exits the facility it is automatically registered. The Identec Solutions RFID system is especially designed for harsh environmental usage and can also be used in areas with explosion risks. The active RFID reading even detects the individual worker if a bus with many workers passes the entrance. Illegal entrance to the facility is also detected and an alarm can be raised to stop the intruder.

Zonith Software Ensures Fast Reaction to Alarms
As there are legal requirements for keeping track of workers inside dangerous work places there are also requirements for safe and reliable alarm communication and reaction to alarms. Zonith’s applications for automated alarm control and dispatch further enhances the safety at the facility by providing fast alarm communication to the staff. If for instance a fire alarm is raised Zonith’s solution will immediately notify workers in the area and automatically start the evacuation process. At the same time security staff is kept instantly informed about the status of the evacuation via text messages on their radios.

Reducing Danger to Staff and Damages to Equipment and Constructions
A tight integration between Identec Solutions RFID WATCHER solution and Zonith’s Alarm Control System ensures that the security staff at any time knows if any workers have remained in the facility. All information is made instantly available on the radios of the security staff. As the security staff has access to this kind of information it increases the safety significantly and reduces danger to people and damages to equipment and construction.

Norra Länken Tunnel Construction Site in Stockholm uses the Combined Solution
The first customer to take the combined solution into use is the Norre Länken – an underground car tunnel project in the Northern part of Stockholm. Here the RFID system keeps track of workers being in the tunnels. All communication in and out of the tunnels as well as between the staff is done via TETRA wireless radio communication. In case of an emergency situation all workers are notified and at the same time emergency information and status of employees remaining in the tunnel is instantly communicated to security staff allowing them to take appropriate actions.

Partnership Agreement Signed
Identec Solutions and Zonith have signed a partnership agreement covering technology integration as well as a joint market approach. About the agreement CEO and co-owner of Zonith, Kristian Hartvig Stiesmark says “We are very happy about our partnership with Identec Solutions.
