Oracle Announces SPARC Solaris-Based Exalogic Elastic Cloud System

Expanded Exalogic Product Line Broadens Customer Choice for Consolidation and Extreme Java Performance

Oracle today announced the Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud T3-1B, a new model that brings the industry-leading performance, scalability and availability of SPARC Solaris servers to Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud engineered systems.

Designed for large-scale, mission-critical deployments, Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud is an engineered hardware and software system tested and tuned by Oracle to run Java and non-Java applications with extreme performance.

Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud T3-1B combines SPARC servers running Oracle Solaris 11 Express with InfiniBand-based I/O fabric, the market-leading Oracle WebLogic Server and other enterprise Java-based Oracle middleware products.

All Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud hardware models, including the previously announced X2-2 and the new T3-1B, are engineered systems that are assembled, tested and tuned at the factory to dramatically reduce the time from machine delivery to fully operational application deployment.

Key Features of Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud T3-1B

Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud can support thousands of Java and non-Java applications with differing security, reliability and performance requirements – making it an ideal platform for enterprise-wide data center consolidation. This, combined with its support for enterprise-class multi-tenancy and ability to meet the most demanding service-level requirements make it the world’s best foundation for cloud computing.

The new Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud T3-1B model running Oracle Solaris is highly optimised for multi-threaded applications, enabling customers to achieve increased performance for multi-threaded enterprise Java software, such as Oracle WebLogic Server.
Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud T3-1B also provides customers with in-depth hardware analysis and helps detect hardware failures before they happen through the integration between SPARC T-Series servers running Oracle Solaris, and features such as Oracle Solaris Predictive Self Healing.

Customers can further reduce unplanned downtime by utilising Oracle Solaris SMF (Service Management Framework) to automatically restart failed software components within Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud.
With Oracle Solaris Zones, different Oracle WebLogic Server instances and other Oracle Fusion Middleware components can be efficiently and securely isolated into different virtual environments for optimal hardware utilisation. Oracle Solaris Zones also can be moved safely and efficiently between physical servers.

Customers can consolidate their existing Oracle Solaris applications on Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud using the integrated Oracle Solaris 10 Zones feature, which allows application environments to be moved into virtual Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud environments without modification.

Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud accelerates the performance of the entire Oracle Fusion Middleware product portfolio based on Oracle WebLogic Server. The machine is also optimised for integration with Oracle Database 11g, Oracle Real Application Clusters and the Oracle Exadata Database Machine.
