SmaSmall Businesses get online – Shopcreator’s Infosite offers best value yet

July 11th, Leeds – You would have thought that with nearly 10% of all retail being online and twenty two years after Sir Tim Berners-Lee published his first proposal for the World Wide Web, that small businesses would have got the message. But it seems not.

According to the Office of National Statistics, 99% of large companies have a web site and, according to the CEBR, they sell 18.7% of their turnover online. But, more than a quarter of companies with less than 50 employees still don’t have a website. And, unsurprisingly they’re missing out on the commercial opportunities afforded by the web. Micro businesses (less than 10 employees) only sell 0.6% of their turnover online, whereas small companies (11-49 employees) aren’t much better at 4.6%.
