Season 2011-2012: What’s new in European ski resorts?

Good news for winter sports fans: the new season’s just around the corner and ski resorts will re-open soon – as early as 1st October! SkiHorizon’s experts have been researching all summer to find out what European resorts have on offer this winter. From essential new infrastructure to new Michelin stars, the list is endless and as usual, SkiHorizon is ready to help its clients make that important decision about where to go on holiday this winter!

The French resorts are buzzing with new facilities for this coming season. Val d´Is ère, already well-known for its legendary ski area, excellent accommodation and high level of services has excelled itself this year. This popular resort now has almost 160 slopes on its piste map and Valpark, renowned for being one of best snow parks in Europe, has installed 8 new snow cannons and a chalet-style snack bar with great music and outdoor seating. The already well-known restaurant, La Becca, has been awarded its first Michelin star and the hotels, Le Christiania, Le Blizzard, Le Savoie and Les Barmes de l’Ours have all been upgraded and now offer 5 star accommodation! Not forgetting the fantastic new sport and aquatic leisure centre which will open its doors this winter with a wide range of activities for all the family.

Les Arcs 1950 is also opening a new 1000m² spa - "Deep Nature Spa"™ - in partnership with Cinq Mondes Spas™ which is situated in the oustanding residence "Le Village" – a must! No more queuing in Châtel and Valmorel - the old Rochassons chairlift in Châtel has been upgraded and is now a comfortable 6-seater lift with extra safety barriers, carrying 3000 happy skiers per hour up to the 650km of the "Portes du Soleil" ski area! Valmorel replaced its "Télési ège des Jeux" with a new 6-seater chairlift which will open for the Christmas holidays.

Anyone looking for something really original will not be disappointed in Les Gets ! Dinner for two in a cable car, a moonlit ride up the mountain side in a "chenillette" (a kind of snow tractor) or a snow trek ending up with an aperitif in an igloo are just a few new additions to this resort’s attractions!
Champéry in Switzerland has replaced the Grand-Conche chairlift and draglift with a new 6-seater high speed chairlift also carrying up to 3000 people per hour up to the “Portes du Soleil" ski area.

Austria is ready to welcome SkiHorizon’s clients this winter with brand new chairlifts and a gondola in Saalbach, upgrades and replacement lifts in Hintertux, Schladming and Kitzbühel, all offering even better, safer services for all winter sports fans.

SkiHorizon, specialist in European ski holidays, keep its clients informed throughout the year, thanks to its Ski Holiday Guide and its Facebook and Twitter pages.
