Innovation artwork at the historic Brooklands site

Leading signage provider Modulex completes the installation of an innovative panel system in the reception area of the Velocity headquarters building on the site of the historic UK motor racing circuit. “Print on panel" technology is used in various metallic finishes combined with inkjet artwork to produce a unique and cost-effective mural.

Although many years have passed since the legendary Brooklands circuit closed, its name still powerfully evokes the golden age of British motor racing and nowadays the site is host to an impressive list of international companies keen to be associated with its heritage.

The latest arrival is Velocity, a speculative development headquarters building of 10,600m2 on five floors, built to high standards by contractor Volker Fitzpatrick in an eye-catching design by ESA architects.

The scheme has a full-height atrium offering a wall space 20m high and 6m wide which the designers were keen to provide with a decorative feature of metallic panels to evoke the heritage of engineering excellence associated with Brooklands.

Working in close collaboration with the designers, Modulex has developed a system of 1m x 1m panels in various metallic paint finishes using “print on panel" technology, at a fraction of the cost of conventional heat-treated metal finishes.

Artwork drawn from imagery of the old race track was applied by inkjet and deep shadow lines achieved with a black foam backing to the panels.
This truly innovative solution provides a key impression at the heart of a building designed to impress.
